3 Fun Summer Cocktails For A Backyard Birthday Party

If you're planning a backyard birthday party for a friend or spouse, then you should think about what type of cocktails you are going to be serving. You can have beer and wine on hand, but it's also important to have a fun selection of cocktails. Because it's the summer, you should stick with cool and refreshing drinks. Here are three classics that you can make. Two of them are blended drinks that you will need to make indoors and then carry out on trays. The last one is a non-blended cocktail that you can make with a few simple ingredients (or even make using a pre-made, store brought mixer.)

Pina Colada

This is an easy frozen cocktail to make once you assemble the ingredients and have the blender ready. It's a tasty rum based drink that features coconut and pineapple. You should get coconut cream (not coconut milk) because it has sugar. This will help to give the drink its sweet taste that people love. Besides coconut cream you are going to need pineapple juice, ice and rum. You add ice to a blender, then pineapple juice, coconut cream, and rum. Blend it until it is frothy. When you serve the drink you should pour it through a drink strainer so that any unblended chunks of ice don't make it into the glass. A good basic ratio for the drink is 2 ounces of coconut cream, 2 ounces of pineapple juice, and 4 ounces of rum. You can adjust it if you find it too sweet, or too heavy on the alcohol.

Strawberry Daiquiri

This is a really fun and pretty drink. It's made with strawberries, sugar, rum, lime juice and ice. You can use fresh strawberries, but if you want a nice shortcut, you can use frozen strawberries in syrup. If you use the frozen strawberries you can skip the sugar part of the recipe. The lime juice helps to counterbalance the sweetness of the strawberry and sugar.

A good recipe for 6 servings would be as follows:

1 Cup of Rum

16 Ounces of Strawberries

¼ Cup of Sugar (non if you are using frozen strawberries in syrup)

A Handful Of Ice

Blend it all until frothy and strain as you would the pina coloda.

Tom Collins

Not everyone is a fan of frozen drinks, or rum, so this is an excellent alternative. A Tom Collins is made with gin. You mix gin, simple syrup, lemon juice, and club soda. A good ratio is 3 parts Gin, 2 parts Lemon, 1 part syrup, and 4 parts Club Soda. However, an easier way to make this is to simply get a bottle of Tom Collins Mix. These are sold at many supermarkets. Then all you have to do is add gin and ice.

They are not blended. They are served on the rocks with either a lemon wedge or cherry as a garnish. To learn more, contact a company like Monin
