Romantic films, they can cause laughter, crying, or suspense as the stories unfold. Those that enjoy being engulfed in stories of love, sharing in the joys and heartaches of finding, keeping, or losing love, should check out this list of must see romantic movies.
Romantic Comedies
Romantic comedies usually show the lighter side of falling in love. The road to love and romance can be paved with laughs, as these movies show.
The Wedding Date – This film tells the story of Kat, not wanting to be at her sister Amy’s wedding alone, hires escort Nick as her boyfriend. She plans to make her ex-fiancé Jeffrey jealous but actually falls for Nick. She finds out Jeffrey left her because he was in love with Amy. Everything is brought to light, causing anger. Amy still marries and Kat and Nick get together.
Life As We Know It – Holly and Eric (Messer), don’t like each other but due to the death of their friends, come together to parent the child they left behind, Sophie. The two fall in love eventually. Messer gets his dream job, without discussing it with Holly. He moves away and Holly dates Sophie’s pediatrician. Messer returns and they fight as usual, but then reconcile.
Chick Flicks
Tears and more tears. Chick Flicks are the movies that usually have you crying throughout. With heart-tugging storylines, these films are sure to please the romantic in you.
The Notebook – A story, within a story, this romantic film follows Allie the heiress and Noah the poor local as they fall in love. Though disapproval separates them and Allie moves on, they find their way back to each other only to have Allie lose her memory. Noah constantly reads their love story to her in the nursing home to help jog her memory. It works and they enjoy one final embrace as they pass on together.
The Lake House – Discovering that they live two years apart, Kate and Alex try to unravel the mystery of the lake house and how they can communicate through letters. As they write, they fall in love with each other and try to meet, but a fatal accident they were both unknowingly a part of threatening their chance to be together. Though they faced setbacks, they finally meet.
Romantic Dramas
Drama and romance go hand in hand. When it comes to love, it’s never easy, and these romantic films show the intense circumstances that come along with it.
Remember Me – Tyler and Ally, having faced tragedy, begin a relationship together. Ally watched her mother murdered and Tyler’s parents divorced after his brother’s suicide. As their relationship blooms, they help each other deal with family. Another tragedy strikes as the twin towers are hit, where Tyler is waiting to meet his father. He’s the same age as his brother.
The Twilight Series – The love between Bella and Edward deepens throughout each film, as they navigate love between human and vampire. Early on a love triangle ensues between Bella, Edward, and Jacob the werewolf. Edward and Bella eventually marry and due to deathly circumstances he changes her into a vampire. Although they don’t like each other, Edward and Jacob come together to protect Bella, and eventually their child Renesme.
Romantic Action/Thrillers
Thinking of romance, action may not come to mind, but these films brings the best of both.
Salt – Evelyn is a Russian spy, sent to America to infiltrate the CIA and marries as part of her cover. The CIA discovers her secret and she goes on the run. The love she had for her cover husband was real and when he’s murdered, she goes on a path to right wrongs.
The Town – An unlikely relationship starts between Doug, a thief and Claire after he robs her bank and takes her hostage. Though she doesn’t know the robbers, she can identify a tattoo. Doug wants to leave his life of crime and eventually comes clean to her about his identity when the police are after him. He flees to avoid prison, wanting her to come, but goes alone.
